Adventure Travel Destination - Try Nepal

By: Oze Parrot

Nepal is a narrow neck of land, bordered on three sides by India and capped by China in the north. The country is 800km long and 300km deep, with an area of 147,181km² and supports a population of about 27,000 people. Nepal is an exciting Adventure Travel Destination mainly because of the Himalayan Mountain range that forms its border with China.

The Nepal landscape ranges from the humid Terai belt in the south to the highest peaks of the Himalayas in the north. Eight of the world's highest mountains are located in Nepal, including Mount Everest. As one would expect, there are quite a number of guided trek tours in the mountain areas and generally, an Adventure Travel trek consists of overnight accommodation in tents, porters are employed to carry your gear and Sherpas employed to set up camp, cook, and serve meals. The trekker need only carry a small backpack with a few clothes, a water bottle and daily requisites. The return journey takes about a week.

White water rafting is a popular sport in the mountain areas and another Adventure Travel Destination in Nepal is Kartikeghat which is the put in point for the start of the Arun river trip down to Chatara. The rapids in the Arun, along this section of the river, make it the most popular white water rafting Destination in Nepal. The kaligandaki river also provides an exhilarating rapid shooting experience and is about a six hour drive from Kathmandu.

An Adventure Travel Destination in Nepal is Kathmandu, which is the capital city of Nepal, it is situated along the Bagmati River about 1,300m above sea level and supports around 1.5 million inhabitants. There are many entertainment venues in the city of Kathmandu including theatrical shows of classical and light performances, casinos and discos. The cinemas in Kathmandu screen Nepali, Indian and other regional movies.

There are also private art galleries and a national art gallery called NAFA in Kathmandu which exhibit and sell a variety of modern and traditional paintings. There is a vast selection of dining opportunities to be found in Kathmandu with many restaurants serving authentic Nepali food complete with ethnic ambience as well as a selection of Indian, Chinese, Continental, Japanese, Korean and Thai foods.

A visit to Nepal would not be complete without sampling the mystic magic of Kathmandu
