On 10 May 2012 the Faculty of Law at the University of Cape Town hosted Afropolitan Through Fabric, an event that threw the spotlight on some of Africa's cultural riches - from traditional homebrew and wear to a fashion show featuring designers from South Africa, Mali and Nigeria, among other nations. 2011 marked the 30th anniversary of the University of Cape Town's Distinguished Teachers (DTA)award. This is the highest accolade given to staff at all levels in the university and it recognises excellent teaching. This year was a bumper year for the award, with four recipients joining the DTA ranks. Three Fellows were also awarded at the December 2011graduation ceremonies.

The University of Cape Town celebrated its annual Graduation Week in Jameson Hall from 12 to 17 December 2011. In the 12 ceremonies that the university hosted, about 5 250 graduands were capped and 79 Phds were awarded.
